In August 2023 Rodgers met Patrick. This little boy was suffering from severe acute malnutrition with oedema, a very serious condition where his limbs and face had become puffy and swollen. Rodgers suspected that Patrick had an underlying condition such as TB, and he urged Patrick’s mum to bring him to Potter’s Village Medical Centre for testing and treatment.

By the time Patrick arrived there, Rodgers reports “he was on his death-bed.” He was soon diagnosed with TB and started on treatment and support for his nutrition, which rapidly transformed his condition. He is still receiving TB treatment, but has now been discharged back home. Rodgers will continue to keep in contact and will check on Patrick’s progress.

Without the community visit from Rodgers it is clear that Patrick would not have been seen and would not have survived. It is so good to see that funding from HealthTree Uganda is helping to save the lives of vulnerable little ones like Patrick.
